Ask additional questions…

Is your soap natural?

I make all of the soaps that I produce as much from natural ingredients as I can.   The answer to this question really boils down to your exact definition of “natural”.  Handmade soaps are by definition far and away more natural than most commercially available soap produced today.  In fact, most of the soaps sold today are not actually soap as we would like to think of them – but detergents made with chemical additives. This leads to two issues. First, the chemicals and detergents are drying to your skin. Always in the back of my mind is the fact that our skin absorbs chemicals – in effect, anything you wouldn’t want to eat is best not put on your skin. Second – because glycerin (a natural skin moisturizer that draws water to your skin) is worth more as an additive to cosmetics and lotions, it is removed from most commercial soap. This leaves your skin without this benefit so that you need to purchase these additional products to keep your skin healthy.

All of the base oils that I use are from natural sources, and I try to use natural or essential oils for additives wherever possible.  However, there is a limit to some scents and colors that are available and cost effective with purely natural sources.  I label all of my ingredients for soaps to try to reflect this.  It can be assumed that any fragrance oils that are listed are not natural unless they are specified as such.  I am always willing to produce soaps to customer preference for soap without fragrance or particular additives on request.

Are your soaps “lye soaps”?

There is no way to make true soap without lye or sodium hydroxide.  The process of saponification is a chemical reaction caused by the reaction of lye and oils or fats.  That doesn’t mean that soaps made with lye are by nature harsh or drying to the skin.  All of the soaps that I produce are Ph balanced and have moisturizing qualities that help the skin to stay healthy.

By default, I ship orders via Priority Mail, but will ship via Fed Ex shipping upon request. Priority Mail normally takes 2 to 3 days but may take up to one full week to reach you depending upon where you are located.  If there are any problems with your shipment, make sure to notify me immediately to discuss what steps can be taken.  I strive for 24 hour turnaround upon receipt of payment but during busy times, such as the holiday season, it can be as much as 3-4 days.  If you need a rush order or expedited shipping, please make sure to request it at the time of your order.
